  • My brain hurts!

Thursday night my brain started hurting.  It hasn’t let up — and has, perhaps, gotten worse.  That’s Friday, Saturday, Sunday and now Monday.

I am having to take Excedrin and DayQuil basically every 4-6 hours to be comfortable.  It sounds like this headache thing is going around, but I’m not sure if I’m doing enough for it.  I want it gone.

    A)  I am leaving town tomorrow afternoon for Anchorage and it would be inconvenient to seek medical care there while I’m at a conference, etc.

    B) I could try and get seen somewhere here today, but I really cannot afford it.

I thought I had decent health care coverage, but it increasingly seems like I’m paying a ton out of pocket for it — for all kinds of services.  I haven’t gotten some claims from my women’s health visits paid yet (despite turning in ALL the proper paperwork months ago, for services rendered back in November).  If those don’t get paid sometime this month, my doctor’s office is going to make me pay the nearly $500 while we continue to get it straightened out.

Now, I got notice of a new claim yesterday, for my chiropractor.  I recall seeing I had 12 visits per year.  I pay $11.60 for each visit directly to the chiro’s office.  Well, the last two visits (Feb & March) show online that I have a patient responsibility of over $50 for each visit.  I want to call and figure this out today, before I keep going to appointments I can’t pay for, but just thinking about that makes my brain hurt again.

*Sigh.*  It sometimes seems like having a full-time job with benefits really doesn’t pay.

  • After Ryan went to the doctor, we realized he has tension headaches (we think, but we’re still getting an MRI to confirm and put his fears to rest that he has a brain tumor). All weekend did neck and shoulder stretches and it did wonders for his headache! He also used a heating pad on his neck. He realized he’s very stiff and tight in the neck, so that’s probably affecting his head. The doctor prescribed this crazy medication….he took it once and it freaked him out. He’s not a meds kind of guy and it was one that’s addicting (some benzo). It kinda freaks me out too because i know it’s not fixing the problem, just masking the pain. He also found that Naproxen (Aleve) really helped his head before he started stretching. I’m also trying to encourage Ryan to go see the massage therapist at work. I think a massage would do wonders for him, but he’s so ticklish i think he’s embarrassed…LOL. I hope yours are just related to stress/tension and you find some relief. The doctor told Ryan that adult onset headaches are very rare, so something is going on.

  • @ShamrockLover -  Well people at my workplace have been getting sick, and several people are reporting this bug that’s going around starts with an evil headache. It also came on SUPER suddenly Thursday while we were walking outside. I definitely am stressed, but I think I’ve taken it pretty easy since this came on and it comes back with a vengeance after my Excedrin and DayQuil wear off.
